Skydiving in the Sonoran Desert

Awesome Adventure Across Arizona

Attention adventurers, thrill seekers, and death-defying extreme types. Arizona isn’t just golf, cactus, and some big hole in the ground.

Catch clear Arizona air by board, biplane, and even belly. The Grand Canyon State’s vast and varying landscapes offer bustling ski areas, red mountain flight tours, seemingly unending caverns – even swinging through trees and a world-famous skydiving camp.

Choose a terrain, and start your Arizona adventure:

Snow

Try downhill skiing on the San Francisco Peaks at the Flagstaff area Arizona Snowbowl Ski Resort – home to the state’s highest vertical drop. Known simply as Snowbowl, the 777-acre site features a summit elevation of 11,500 feet, plus advanced ski runs like Shiprocks and Rustler, and the Sunset Terrain Parks.

Located in Greer near Pinetop and Show Low amongst eastern Arizona’s White Mountains, the Sunrise Park Resort features 800 skiable acres. The three peaks include Sunrise, Cyclone, and Apache – Arizona’s second highest vertical drop.

Sunrise offers 14 advanced runs, a terrain park, and night skiing.

Cave

What’s the opposite of skydiving? Eh, probably caving. Your lips may not be fluttering by intense, oncoming air, but it is thrilling.

There are more than a couple ways to head underground in Arizona. The most well known is Kartchner Caverns State Park – set in southern Arizona near Benson. Check out the longest soda straw stalactites on the globe in the Throne Room, or the world’s most impressive brushite moonmilk in the Big Room.

Part of Old West Arizona, the Vulture Mine is located northwest of Phoenix in Wickenburg. Other caves in Arizona include the Grand Canyon Caverns, and Colossal Cave Mountain Park.

Air

When you think extreme, you normally think skydiving. Arizona has your answer with Skydive Arizona – set in Eloy near Casa Grande. Skydive AZ is the largest skydiving facility on the planet, and handles 135,000 jumps a year.

Whether passenger or pilot, you can find yourself in that clear desert sky thanks to the many adventure companies of central Arizona.

Check out Mesa’s Fighter Combat International and Desert Dogfights, or try Sedona Air Tours in Sedona, Turf Souring School in Peoria, Arizona Soaring in Gila Ben, and SoaringFlight in Tucson.

Nature

Marvel at the soaring trees and vast canyons of northern Arizona during your unique adventure.

Check out the “elevated obstacle course” in the Ponderosa Pines treetops at the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course – just north of Flagstaff in the Historic Fort Tuthill County Park.

Second, and this one’s obvious, you must explore the Grand Canyon National Park. This famous national park features everything from South Rim helicopter flyovers to white-water rafting the Colorado River and off-road Jeep tours.
