Northern Arizona University
The Northern Arizona mountains near Flagstaff are not only home to the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the country, but also Northern Arizona University. Itwas established in 1899, and n 1901 the first four women graduated with a certificate to teach in the Arizona Territory.
By 1925, the university was able to award Bachelor's degrees. The university is classified as a high research activity university, by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. In addition to the Flagstaff campus, there are additional satellite Northern Arizona University campuses across the state, that offer night and weekend classes. In total, the student population exceeds 25,000 students.
The NAU Lumberjacks compete in the Big Sky Conference in a variety of sports and the Western Athletic Conference in diving and swimming. Enjoy strolling through the beautiful northern Arizona campus.
