Montezuma Castle National Monument
Visit Montezuma's Castle in Campe Verde
See one of the most iconic Arizona landmarks during your next visit. In 1906, Montezuma Castle National Monument was one of four historical sites first declared a National Monument by President Theodore Roosevelt.
Because of this vision, it is now one of the “best preserved prehistoric cliff dwellings” in America. The legacy of the Sinagua people continues, allowing future generations to admire this homestead.
A self-guided loop trail leads visitors past the five-story cliff dwelling to admire it from a distance. Visitors are no longer allowed to enter the 20-room limestone dwelling in order to protect it, but a virtual tour of the ruins is available. While visiting Camp Verde in northern Arizona see Cottonwood, a short drive from the Monument.
